NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING – Assessment of Fees 17.1-279.1

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Town Council of the Town of Tappahannock, Virginia, will hold a public hearing on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers located at 915 Church Lane, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560.

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments from the public regarding the proposed adoption of an ordinance pursuant to Virginia Code § 17.1-279.1, authorizing the collection of a fee to support the implementation and maintenance of an Electronic Summons System.

The proposed ordinance would authorize the collection of a fee of Five Dollars ($5.00), or such amount as may be authorized by Virginia Code § 17.1-279.1, as part of the costs in qualifying criminal and traffic cases. Revenue generated from the fee shall be used solely for software, hardware, and associated equipment costs related to the implementation, operation, and maintenance of the Town's Electronic Summons System, as permitted by law.

A copy of the proposed ordinance is available for public inspection during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Tappahannock Municipal Building (Town Office)  915 Church Lane, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560.

All interested people are invited to attend and be heard regarding the proposed ordinance.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - Sections 38-51 and 38-56

TOWN COUNCIL TOWN OF TAPPAHANNOCK, VIRGINIA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Town Council of the Town of Tappahannock, Virginia, will hold a public hearing on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers located at 915 Church Lane, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560.

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments from the public regarding a proposed ordinance amending Sections 38-51 and 38-56 of the Code of the Town of Tappahannock relating to temporary parking restrictions and temporary tow-away zones.

The proposed ordinance would amend Section 38-51 to clarify the authority of the Town to regulate parking through official signs, including temporary parking restrictions established for public safety, traffic control, emergency operations, construction activities, utility work, parades, festivals, public gatherings, special events, athletic events, community events, and similar activities.

The proposed ordinance would further amend Section 38-56 to authorize the Chief of Police or designee to establish temporary tow-away zones when necessary for public safety and traffic management purposes. The ordinance would require temporary tow-away zones to be identified through official signage, provide for a minimum forty-eight (48) hour notice period prior to enforcement except in emergency situations, and authorize the removal of vehicles parked in violation of properly designated temporary tow-away zones in accordance with Virginia Code § 46.2-1213 and other applicable provisions of law.

The proposed ordinance would also allow applicants for parades, festivals, races, public gatherings, special events, and other permitted activities to request temporary parking restrictions and temporary tow-away zones as part of the event permitting process, subject to approval by the Chief of Police or designee.

 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Town Council of the Town of Tappahannock, Virginia, will hold a public hearing on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers located at 915 Church Lane, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560.

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments from the public regarding the proposed adoption of an ordinance pursuant to Virginia Code § 46.2-873, as amended by Chapter 337 of the 2026 Acts of Assembly, relating to the operation of school crossing zone signs and school crossing zone active periods.

The proposed ordinance would increase the active period for designated school crossing zones within the Town of Tappahannock from thirty (30) minutes before and after regular school hours to sixty (60) minutes before and after regular school hours, as authorized by Virginia law. The purpose of the ordinance is to enhance the safety of students, pedestrians, school personnel, and motorists in and around designated school crossing zones.
