Accreditation promotes professionalism in agencies and builds public confidence in law enforcement in Virginia. The Tappahannock Police Department (TPD) is pleased to be an accredited police agency through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC). In the years preceding 2016, members of TPD embarked on a journey to prevent and control crime through the delivery of professional services and adherence to high standards. While adhering to recognized policies and procedures, TPD received its first accreditation certificate in 2016. The agency retained this certification over the years and received its third award on May 30, 2024. Benefits of the certification include the following:
